Eyelid Surgery
There is little doubt that our eyes play a significant role in how we are perceived. Loose eyelid skin, dark circles, and puffy bags make one look older and tired.
Eyelid surgery (“blepharoplasty”) is a procedure involving the removal of excess skin, muscle, fat, or any combination of the three. This surgery helps produce a more youthful appearance to the eyelids; it can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both depending on the patient’s needs.
Dr. Diaz’s approach is based on modern techniques that not only remove excess skin and bulging, but also maintain a smooth and full look to the upper eyelid. The result is a more natural appearance.
Procedures
An upper blepharoplasty is performed on the upper eyelids. Recent research has revealed that fullness and a smooth contour of the upper eyelid are ideal aesthetically. Older techniques remove excess tissue, but fail to do anything more.
A lower blepharoplasty is performed on the lower eyelids. In most cases, the main issue is bulging of the fat, which causes the appearance of “baggy eyes.” Dr. Diaz performs careful and precise removal of the bulging fat through an incision made on the inner surface of the lower eyelid. This is a less invasive method that causes no external scars. If excess skin is present, it is removed either directly with excision or by laser resurfacing.
Results
Lower blepharoplasty was recommended for this patient due to the appearance of “baggy eyes.” The end result was a profound improvement in the contour of the lower eyelid skin and without any scarring.
A lower blepharoplasty was also performed on this patient, but because of inadequate volume, rather than excess fat. This is a procedure involved fat grafting, which meant that fat was obtained from another area of the body and injected into the lower eyelids.
