Neck Surgery
Over time, the combination of gravity and weight gain may cause significant changes to the neck area, resulting in a neck that appears very full and “saggy.” This can also cause an individual to appear prematurely older. This process occurs because excess fat is deposited in the neck area and the muscles and skin become loose.
There are various procedures that Dr. Diaz utilizes to rejuvenate the neck and reverse the aging process. This entails liposuction for excess neck fat, or, in some cases, a full neck lift for those with excess skin or loose muscles. Choosing the right procedure begins with a thorough examination with Dr. Diaz.
Procedures
Liposuction is one procedure that removes the extra fat from the neck by making minimal incisions under the chin and behind each earlobe crease. Another more advanced procedure is a full neck lift. This involves making a small incision in an inconspicuous area of the neck. Fat is removed and the muscles are tightened. Unless there is an abundance of extra skin, it will not be necessary to remove any skin.
Recovery
After surgery, light bandages are applied and a compressive garment is worn around the neck. If the muscles are tightened, a drain may be placed for the first 24 hours to remove extra fluid.
Light activities are acceptable after two to three days. Driving may be resumed approximately one week after surgery. Patients may return to work after a week, but bruising and swelling will diminish within two to three weeks.
Results
Liposuction was performed on this patient underneath her chin, over her neck, and along her jawline. As a result, her jawline and neck are much more defined.
This patient also received liposuction to remove the excess fat deposits resulting in a neck profile that is much straighter. Many people have excess fat on their neck which is very resistant to diet and exercise.
